Terms and Conditions
GRIDD UK LIMITED. Registered in England & Wales, company no. 14944098 • Registered office: 71-75 Shelton Street, London WC2H 9JQ • 01789 224 994 • hello@gridd.uk
1. Who we are and how these terms apply
These terms apply to all electrical work carried out by GRIDD UK LIMITED ("we", "us") for you, the customer. By accepting a quotation, you accept these terms. Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, under which we must carry out our services with reasonable care and skill.
2. Quotations
Written quotations are free for standard work and remain open for acceptance for 30 days. Quotations are based on the information available to us at the time, including anything we could reasonably see on a survey. Prices for design-led work (for example smart home projects) may follow a paid design and specification stage, which we will agree with you in advance and credit against the project where stated.
Our quotations are for the complete job described: they include design and specification, materials procurement, testing, certification, notification to Building Control where required, and waste removal, unless the quotation says otherwise. Prices on our website price list are "from" prices for straightforward access in a typical property; your written quotation is the binding figure.
3. Booking and deposits
A job is booked once you accept the quotation in writing (email or message is fine) and, for work over £1,500, pay a deposit of 40% of the quoted price unless otherwise agreed in writing. The deposit covers materials and reserves your dates. Deposits are refundable in line with sections 4 and 5 below.
4. Your right to cancel (14-day cooling-off period)
If you are a consumer and we agreed the contract in your home, by phone, or online (rather than at our premises), you have the legal right to cancel within 14 days of the day after the contract is made, without giving a reason, under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013.
To cancel, tell us in writing within the 14 days — a clear email or letter is enough. You may use the cancellation form at the end of these terms but you do not have to.
If you cancel within the period, we will refund any payment (including deposits) within 14 days.
If you would like us to start work during the 14-day period, we will ask you to confirm this in writing. If you then cancel, you will only pay for the work done and materials used up to the point of cancellation.
If the work is completed within the 14-day period at your express request, the right to cancel is lost once the work is finished.
Urgent or emergency repairs you ask us to carry out are exempt from the cooling-off rules.
5. Cancellation and rescheduling outside the cooling-off period
Plans change and we try to be flexible. If you cancel or reschedule a booked job with more than 5 working days' notice, we will refund your deposit less the cost of any materials already ordered specifically for your job that cannot be returned. With 5 working days' notice or less, we may also charge for time reserved that we cannot reasonably re-book. We will always tell you the amount before charging it.
If we need to reschedule (for example due to illness or an emergency job), we will give you as much notice as possible and offer the earliest alternative dates. If we cancel entirely, any deposit is refunded in full.
6. Changes and extra work
If you ask for changes once work is under way, or if the job turns out to be materially different from what could reasonably be seen when we quoted (for example concealed defective wiring, inaccessible routes, or damage found behind finishes), we will explain what has changed, agree a price for the additional work in writing before doing it, and adjust the schedule if needed. Additional time required designing new solutions, selecting and collecting materials or tools in these circumstances are chargeable at our standard hourly rate.
7. Materials
Materials we supply remain our property until the job is paid for in full, at which point ownership passes to you. Materials we supply are covered by the manufacturer's warranty and our workmanship guarantee.
You are welcome to supply your own materials, however we cannot warrant customer-supplied goods, and if a customer-supplied item proves faulty or unsuitable, time spent removing or refitting it or selecting and obtaining a replacement is chargeable at our standard hourly rate. Most electrical materials are safety-critical equipment, and we reserve the right to decline to fit items we cannot verify as compliant or we feel compromise the quality or integrity of an installation.
8. Access and site conditions
Please make sure we can get to the areas where we need to work, that fragile or valuable items are moved out of the working area, and that someone over 18 is available to give access at the agreed times. Time lost because access was not available as agreed may be charged at our standard hourly rate.
Our prices include reasonable protection of your location (dust sheets, tidy working, waste removed). Domestically, chases will be filled but not plastered or to a decorators finish unless the quotation says otherwise. If we discover suspected asbestos we will stop work in that area immediately and discuss next steps with you; testing and removal are specialist services we do not provide.
9. Certification and Building Control
Where the work is notifiable under Part P of the Building Regulations, we will notify it through our competent person scheme [NICEIC / NAPIT — membership no. 82766 ] and you will receive the appropriate certificate (Electrical Installation Certificate, Minor Works Certificate or Condition Report). Certificates are issued once the account is settled in full.
10. Payment
Domestic invoices above £2500 are payable within 5 days of the date of the invoice, by bank transfer or card. Amounts below this threshold are payable same day. Unless otherwise agreed in writing. For larger projects we may agree staged payments in the quotation. If an invoice remains unpaid after a reminder, we may charge interest at 4% a year above the Bank of England base rate on the outstanding amount, and for business customers, statutory interest and compensation under the Late Payment of Commercial Debts (Interest) Act 1998. All other invoices are payable same day unless otherwise specified on the invoice.
11. Our guarantee
Our workmanship is guaranteed for 12 months from completion, in addition to your statutory rights. Notifiable work is completed through our competent person scheme with NAPIT. The guarantee covers defects in our workmanship; it does not cover fair wear and tear, damage caused by others, misuse, or faults in parts of your installation we did not work on.
12. Our liability
We hold public liability insurance and professional indemnity up to £3M / £300K. We are responsible for foreseeable loss or damage caused by our failure to use reasonable care and skill, we are not responsible for pre-existing defects in an installation, for losses that were not foreseeable when the contract was made, or for business losses where we are working for you as a consumer. Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else where the law does not allow liability to be limited.
13. Complaints
If something is not right, tell us and we will come back and look at it — usually that is all it takes. If you are not happy with our response, you can complain in writing to hello@gridd.uk and we will reply within 5 working days. If we cannot resolve the matter between us, you may be able to refer it to our competent person scheme's complaints process at NAPIT or to a certified alternative dispute resolution (ADR) provider. You may also use the courts.
14. Your information
We use your contact details and job information only to carry out the work, issue certificates, and meet our legal obligations (for example Building Control notification). We do not sell or share your details for marketing.
15. General
These terms and any contract between us are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. If any part of these terms is found to be unenforceable, the rest still applies. These terms, together with your quotation, are the entire agreement between us and replace anything discussed earlier.
